The Downtowner of the Year award recognizes volunteer service promoting and revitalizing the downtown over a span of years. The Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership believes that service for which no compensation is given is the most important attribute of the Downtowner of the Year. There is no requirement that the nominees live in Kennewick or be a member of the HDKP, just that the majority of the community service benefited the Historic Downtown Kennewick from Bridge to Bridge/ River to 10th Avenue.

If you know a person you feel we encourage you to go to the HDKP website at www.historickennewick.org and download an application and submit their name for consideration. Final selection of the Downtowner of the Year will be made by a panel of previous Downtowner’s and the deadline is Friday, April 6, 2012. The Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership will be hosting it’s Annual Breakfast Meeting on Friday January 6, 2012 with the introduction of the newly elected Board Members and Officers for the 2012 year. The Partnership’s Executive Director Timothy Dalton will present a year-end review highlighting the achievements of this past year and speak of exciting plan for the Downtown area in 2012. Plan on a large turnout as this event remain one of the most popular in the Downtown area. Miss Tri-Cities will be on hand to hand out candy as well as help with the annual drawing for kids gift basket donated by local area merchants and a boys and girls bike donated by Washington Hardware and Furniture.

We would like to express our special thanks to the Visiting Angels, Overturf Motors, and Kennewick General Hospital for their sponsorship of Grapefest which made this piece of art possible.

Downtown Kennewick will celebrate the centennial year of the oldest festival in the Tri-Cities. In the early 1900s, Kennewick was home to the largest Concord grape harvest in the world. Church’s grape juice plant was located here. In celebration of the harvest, Grapefest was born in 1911. Eventually Grapefest became the County Fair. It has had several incarnations over the years.

We would like to celebrate this history and sense of community with everyone by having an event to remember. Already in the works are an amazing line-up of talented entertainers, street performers, a juggling school, the famous Grapestomp (limited to 25 teams), a teddy bear parade, the fun run, bands, arts and craft vendors, a Painted Chair Auction for charity and so much more. It is our hope that you as a member, would pass the word to your civic organizations, clubs, businesses and neighbors. We need volunteers, sponsors, committee members, teams (grapestomp and BBQ), arts and craft vendors just to name a few. If you have ideas or input please let us know. Let’s show everyone what a great place downtown Kennewick is!

This year, the Partnership will play host to over 200 as car owners turn out to display their treasured automotive classics.
Again, the festivities start on Friday night with registration and a poker run at Overturf Motors on Columbia Drive at 4pm. Saturday in the Show & Shine in the heart of the Historic Downtown form 8am to 4pm.

This project will include gum removal for the sidewalks and possible pressure washing on building if there is enough interest. The Historic Downtown Kennewick Partnership is looking for volunteers to help prepare the downtown area for spring. Other projects include replanting the planters at the Billie Jane Lampson Clock Plaza and some general weeding and edging at the Centennial Flag Plaza.
