Meet the folks from the shop! Ed and Moe’s Pawn shop and Guitar Bar that is.
The name “Ed and Moe’s” dates back to the early 1930’s Seattle waterfront Pawn shop. The family members of the historical Seattle pawn shop, that at the time specialized in pawning clothes, agreed that they would allow the name to continue on in an industry that provided financial assistance to those who were in need.
Flash forward to 2008, Ed and Moe’s Pawn Shop in Kennewick was purchased independently and relocated from it’s 600 square-ft facility to its current permanent location at 419 W. Entiat Avenue in Historic Downtown Kennewick where they have been holding it down for the past 11 years!
We know the owner! Russel Del Gesso has been an active member in the Downtown community for years. He has served on committee and was the President of the HDKP Board back in 2015. He volunteers for events like the Classy Chassy Car Show and other events downtown that require help with logistics and safety. For all of his support and passion for Downtown Kennewick, Russel was made “Downtowner of the Year” in 2015.
“We love the atmosphere of creativity, diversity, entrepreneurship, people, and recreation. Our favorite part is how all these things work together to make our community great!” says owner Del Gesso.
The crew at Ed & Moe’s Pawn Shop and Guitar Bar have had business as usual but are looking forward to sports and recreational activities to start up again. Though having an excuse not to do house work was nice.
“The community has and continues to support our business. It is the nature of our business to provide opportunity for people who come here, now we continue to look for ways to reach out in the community and support other businesses who may be struggling more during this particular time. Send us more opportunities to give back.” Ed and Moe’s has been a strong advocate for local business during these hard times and we couldn't be more proud of them.
When asked if there was anything they wanted to let the public know, the team at Ed and Moe’s would like to clear up some misconceptions about Pawn shops and theft or handling stolen property.
While states have different laws that govern theft and stolen property, our state is pretty clear on how to handle these issues.
“I can speak for both pawn shops here in Kennewick regarding our proactive partnership with local law enforcement to spearhead programs and processes (at an increased cost to our business) which enable greater communication and containment of stolen property, thieves, and prevention of repeat occurrence.” says Del Gesso.
The crew at Ed and Moe’s works diligently to inform victims of the process and how to maximize its benefit in order to retain their confidence in the integrity of not just our business, but the actual people who work here and care about our local citizens. They also deliver information on how local law enforcement, with all its tools, is working to maximize the discovery and recovery of their lost items.
